Super Fruits - The Amazing World of Super Fruits



Super fruits have caught the attention of the general public within the last several years. Although these same fruits have been around since the beginning time, many are turning to them to ease gout pain, improve eyesight and even enjoy a healthier heart naturally.
The super fruit fascination started back in 2004 when a book was published explaining the natural health benefits of the fruits categorized under this term. The term of super fruit refers to the antioxidant capacity of the underlying fruit. In addition to the antioxidant value, the fruits on this list also offer natural health benefits and taste good.
So for a fruit to be included on this list it must meet three criteria:
• High in antioxidants
• Offering natural health benefits
• An appealing taste
One area of importance to many seeking natural health remedies is the fruit's ability to offer a natural health benefit. (reduce joint pain, improve eye sight, etc.). Also, since many fruits offer similar compounds (vitamins and minerals) the health benefits of the underlying super fruit may not be attributed to just one compound. So it may be the synergistic benefits of all of the compounds naturally present in the underlying fruit that gives it natural health benefits.
For example, the tart cherry helps to reduce joint pain and inflammation in the body. Although the tart cherry is a natural source of Anthocyanins, research suggests it may be all of the compounds in the cherry working together in a synergistic relationship rather than the sole responsibility of the Anthocyanins.
According to emerging research there is actually two lists. First is the list of actual super fruits, while the second is a list of emerging super fruits. The biggest difference between the two lists is the fruits on the emerging list are not officially classified as super fruits. However, they do offer medical research evidence they offer significant antioxidant properties and/or harmful disease fighting properties.
